These have been unprecedented times for the amusement industry in India. The extended lockdown imposed on our industry will have a short to medium-term impact on the growth of the industry. In these uncertain times, stakeholders in the amusement sector in India have postponed planned projects or shelved them all together.
Having said this, all is not bad. Today more than ever, there is a need for entertainment and relaxation, albeit with the caveat of “safety”. Though the vaccine seems far away, the behaviour of the masses seems to suggest that we have started to accept the pandemic as something we have to learn to live with. For example, at our water park and snow park business, we have seen a constant increase in customer enquiry calls to our phone lines.
Today more than ever safety will be at the forefront of our guest’s mind. The challenge of today will be to see how we provide happy customer experiences even with the necessary precautions in place. Every amusement business will have to implement strong SoPs and guidelines. We will not only have to ensure the safety of our customers but will also have to communicate safety and earn their trust. Having the right technology partner plays a significant role in achieving this, to ensure safety of our customers & gaining their confidence, by providing a great experience during their visit.
In closing, I believe that entertainment is an integral part of any society. To travel is to live, the amusement industry is here to stay, this is but a hiccup in our journey. In the end, those destinations that can implement and more importantly communicate safety will bounce back faster.
